Why Should I Get Organized?

 Increase Productivity:

Scientists at the Princeton University Neuroscience Institute have used fMRI to show that our brains like order, and constant visual reminders of disorganization drain our cognitive resources and reduce our ability to focus. They found that when participants cleared clutter from their environment, they were better able to focus and process information. The take away is that clutter is distracting you, even if you think you don’t think you “see it.” Add ADD or ADHD to your mix, and it is nearly impossible to focus! No wonder you feel like you never get anything done!

Save Time and Money:

Searching for things takes time. Cleaning in clutter wastes time. Losing things costs money. Forgetting you own things and buying them again takes money. Even worse, losing bills or paying late costs money too. Organizing also creates new shopping habits that will save you money. The Return on Investment on organizing is immeasurable!

Help Your Family:

Whether you are currently role modeling for young family members, looking to start inviting friends and family again, or clearing your possessions so your family doesn't have to later, you are likely not just taking this journey for yourself. The whole family benefits from a neater home both today and in the years to come. They may not thank you now, but one day they will!

Reduce Stress:

Researchers find people who see their home as “cluttered” have a stress hormone profile indicative of chronic stress. It has also been linked with anxiety and depression and being more tired at home! Clutter bombards your mind with excessive stimuli causing your senses to work overtime on stimuli that aren't necessary or important. If you come home and don't feel like everything is "done," you feel like you can not relax physically or mentally.

Improved Health:

In a 2016 study, college students were twice as likely to reach for sugar-rich foods when they were stressed and in a messy kitchen. Researchers found that the combination of stress (which clutter causes) AND being in a chaotic environment led to more unhealthy eating habits. Clutter and disorganization have also been linked to bouts of insomnia. Even memory is impacted!

Overall Cleaner Home:

The more clutter you have, the harder it is to easily dust and clean surfaces and floors. Research also shows that you spend 40% less time on daily cleaning when you have an uncluttered environment.
